達磨の目 - Why daruma dolls have no pupils?

縁起物のだるまさんは、目が無い状態で販売されていて、祈願時に片方の目を、成就した際にもう片方を入れるという、慣わしがありますね。

どっちから入れるでしょうか?


この間、香港人に聞かれました。


そこで、調べました。

• Why does the Daruma doll have no eyes (pupils) when you first get one?

It's for the owner to draw an pupil when he/she makes a wish or sets a goal at the beginning of a year or some special occasions. It's like you make an agreement with your Daruma that you'll work hard to reach your goal! 

• Which pupil first?

Daruma's left eye.


だるまさんの左目（向かって右側）から入れます。

鉛筆で大体のイメージを書いてみました。
お顔は肌色に塗るので、鉛筆の線はその時消えちゃうけど。

来週中には仕上げられるかな？
